Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The Royal Fish Bar excels in delivering consistently delicious fish and chips that hit the mark every time. Diners rave about the crispy batter, especially on their cod, which easily competes with any seaside fish and chip shop. Notably, their variety of offerings, including gluten-free options for those intolerant, is a huge plus for many customers.

Another favorite is the battered haggis and black pudding, a unique twist that pays homage to Scottish flavors and adds to the menu's charm. The affordability is also appreciated, with many noting that the generous portions provide excellent value for money, perfect for family meals or just treating yourself.

Quick service also grabs attention, making it an ideal stop during a busy lunch hour, especially on weekdays. Lastly, the casual vibe is a hit; it creates an inviting atmosphere for enjoying a classic British meal.

Most Disliked

While The Royal Fish Bar enjoys immense popularity, a few reviews point out that its appearance could be more inviting. Some visitors mention that the exterior might look a bit run-down, which could deter newcomers from stepping inside for the first time. It's essential not to let appearances fool you, as the quality of food is where it truly shines.

The busyness during peak hours can lead to longer waits, especially on Fridays when the place often reaches full capacity. Some patrons advise timing visits to avoid the rush for a more relaxed dining experience. Meanwhile, seating can be limited, especially during busy lunch and dinner periods, so diners might need to wait or opt for takeout instead. Overall, while the food quality and service are nearly unbeatable, certain aspects of the dining experience could see improvement.

Great wee find! A Scottish chip shop in England. They fry chips separately for those of us who are gluten intolerant. Found it by chance but I'll be sure to go back!

We've tried other fish and chip places in Burgess Hill but this is the best and our usual. Also does battered haggis, black pudding and white pudding, all delicious.

Whilst it looks a little run down, the fish and chips is exceptionally good and very good value. Don't be put off by appearances.

I’ve been a chef my whole working life and run a catering business for many years. The fish and chips were epically good. Exactly how they should be , and are often not any more !! Crunchy , tasty batter , clinging to the fish but not greasy, chips chunchy and delicious!!! Well seasoned yummy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Usually a bit of a wait but that's because most of it is freshly cooked. Best in the area in my opinion. Fish is gorgeous all the time and the chips, especially when they're new potatoes, are to die for.
